Kudos to our Sixth Graders!

Of my 12 years at Trinity, not one year has gone by that I haven’t been impressed and amazed at the growth of our sixth grade students.  Working in the Admissions Office gave me the opportunity to see first-hand the confidence the sixth graders had gained as they toured prospective parents throughout the school.  As tours ended, the comments from parents filled me with pride and further confirmed the importance of the sixth grade year at Trinity.  I took great pleasure in sharing my thoughts with anyone who would listen – especially those parents who were concerned about applying out to the schools that “opened up” in sixth grade.  Having two children who attended Westminster, I once again witnessed a difference from the children who started at Westminster, and friends they made who had graduated from Trinity.  Not only did the Trinity alums exude spirit and confidence, but the relationships they made at Trinity followed them throughout junior high and beyond.  The girls and boys leave Trinity sharing a special bond, a love and mutual respect for one another, one that is enhanced by trips to Twin Lake and Highlands.  One quick story will confirm this love and respect.  There is a timed mile run that takes place at Westminster for all students at some point during the year.  A student in first place noticed that he had lapped a former Trinity classmate who was not doing well in the run, falling well behind everyone else and looking most discouraged.  After crossing the finish line, the first place student went back and joined his former Trinity classmate, encouraging him to keep on going and finish the run – which he did to much applause.  What more can I say?

Kate, you have had a unique perspective in seeing the students as they enter as a youngster and grow into a Sixth Grader. The growth is amazing! In a little over a week, I will attend the Alumni gathering of high school seniors who are ready for their next venture – post proms! Our Sixth Graders grow into such amazing young people. Every Trinity Community member has reason to swell with pride, knowing that each person made a difference in their lives.
