Breathing Room

Every Sunday evening I sit down and review my agenda for the week – planning out each moment of each day. Monday morning comes and before I can blink my eyes it’s Sunday evening again and I am reviewing my agenda for the next week. I forget to leave any breathing room. With the fast-paced world that we live in these days this seems “normal,” but as I sit here today I can’t help but think how this is affecting my life? Am I causing myself more stress? Are my relationships suffering? Is my wellness being pushed to the side?

Everyone needs time for themselves. Time to think. Time to relax. Time to share with our family and friends. Time to take care of our body and mind. This much needed time can be forfeited in order to get everything in to the day.  With all of the hustle and bustle, we can’t enjoy the small things.  By putting aside time to breathe we are putting ourselves in control of our lives instead of our lives controlling us.

While I have put a “Breathing Room” reminder on my own agenda, I hope that everyone remembers to take time to breathe and to enjoy each and every day.

Our days may come to seventy years,

or eighty, if our strength endures;

yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow,

for they quickly pass, and we fly away.

Psalm 90:10

  3. Shannon,

    Just catching my breath and catching up on blog posts! Finding myself woefully behind and enjoying every word that my colleagues have contributed. Thanks for the written reminder about breathing.
