The Liberation of Gabriel King

I have always been a very vivid dreamer. I usually wake up in the mornings and I can recount specific details from what I dreamed the night before. I dream in color and there is usually music. My dreams are so realistic that I can mix up my dreams and reality! Sometimes I dream that I am running away from something, and my legs never let me run fast enough. I never get caught, but I feel like I am running in slow motion.  Gabriel has a pretty scary dream in this section, which he tells Frita about after church.

What was his dream about? What was Frita’s reaction to the dream?

Can you relate to Gabriel? What is a reoccurring or scary dream you’ve had?

  • I think his dream was about Dukes dad trying to scare Frita and getting everyone stuck in this sticky web. Frita was clearly scared about the dream but didn’t want to tell Gabe, and decided they needed to work harder on not being as scared of things. I am like Gabe because I am scared of corpses or dead bodies, but I am not like Gabe because I’m not scared of my brother pounding me, and I’m not scaredy cat. I have one scary dream and it was very long and complex so, in short I was this walking and talking jelly Bean that was at war with a army of giant chicken tenders that wanted to kill me very weird I know. The book was not my favorite, but I liked the book clubs, and jobs, and I think they enhanced the story, and made you think about the books more. Our group had no trouble keeping the discussion going for the time needed.

    • Katherine, thank you for answering all of my questions! I am impressed with your answers, even your crazy dream. I laughed out loud when I read that in your dream you were a jelly bean at war with chicken tenders. I am sorry that it was a scary dream though. I am so glad you enjoyed book clubs, maybe you should start your own book club with some friends, and you could read any book you are interested in and talk about it.

  • Gabe’s dream was about Duke being a spider and him getting caught in his web. When he finally gets out, he tries to run away but soon finds Frita not following. Frita gets stuck in Mr. Evan’s web. Frita was very shocked to find this out. She is also frightened because her father told her that dreams almost always mean something. A scary dream I had was VERY freaky! It started when I was with a friend in my basement then some how there was a garage door and it opened. There was a REALLY creepy person! They started chasing us and we couldn’t get away! AHHHH well right when I was going to figure out if we die or not, my mom woke me up!

Gabriel’s dream was about half spider, half human creatures. The creatures were chasing Gabriel and Frita in the woods. Two of the spiders become Duke and Mr. Evans. When Frita sees Mr. Evans she stops dead in her tracks. Mr. Evans grabs hold of Frita and then Gabe wakes up.

Frita’s reaction to this dream was the feeling of being scared and concerned. I think she was scared and concerned because her dad has told her about how he thinks dreams can tell you of the future and she feared Gabe’s dream would partially come true.

I can relate to Gabe because am a boy who lives in Georgia, likes ice cream, and sometimes I have scary dreams too.

One of the scary dreams that I have had was when I was running through the woods. I was being chased by a clown with big red shoes, white shirt, black and white stripped pants, and red suspenders. He had a white clown face with a red nose and a rainbow affro. I had on a purple hoody and jeans. As I was running I felt like my feet were stuck in malasis. It was hard for me to run. This made me feel just like what Ms. Walker described in her blog post. I felt like I couldn’t get away from the scary clown.

  • Gabe’s dream was about him and Frita walking along the pond and a big spider popped out that looked like Mr. Evans. Then the spider was about to get Frita, but Gabe warned her, but she didn’t listen, so the spider got her. When Gabe told Frita his dream, she got all worried because her father told her that people’s dreams are always signs that things are going to happen.

I can relate to Gabe because once I had a dream that hamburgers got mad at us for eating them, so they all tried to eat us. And I didn’t get to choose my fate, because that is when my dad woke me up.
